Emil Frey Racing expects real highlight at fourth DTM round of the season
Norisring, Germany – 01. July 2024
When the DTM starts its fourth round of the season at the Norisring next weekend, Emil Frey Racing's excitement will also be on the rise. Even if the team was unable to take any good experiences from last year, it is always something special to drive on the only street circuit in Germany - and Emil Frey Racing is ready and waiting in line with the two Ferrari 296 GT3s.
It is not for nothing that the Norisring is also known as the "Franconian Monaco", where racing has been taking place on the 2.2-kilometre circuit around the historic stone grandstand since 1972. Despite the short lap length, there are exciting sections of the track, such as the sprint section between the two turning points, the Grundig bend and the Dutzendteich.
The Swiss racing team's season so far has been one of constant ups and downs: in addition to the two wins this season by Jack Aitken and strong finishes by the young Dutchman Thierry Vermeulen, Emil Frey Racing has also experienced a lot of bad luck with race retirements through none fault of their own. The team currently ranks sixth in the team standings, Jack Aitken is seventh in the drivers' standings thanks to his two wins, while his team-mate Thierry Vermeulen is 14th.
The fourth round of the DTM will take place from 5th to 7th July at the Norisring in Nuremberg. The racing series will be shown again on Pro7 in the 2024 season.
Team Quotes Emil Frey Racing
Lorenz Frey-Hilti, Team Principal
"If you look back at the Norisring races from last year, they are obviously not fond memories. We had an unlucky classification with the Balance of Performance (BoP) and hope that, in view of what happened this year, we will be in a better position this time. We know our strengths and on a tight and short street circuit like the Norisring, the races are open until the end - it will definitely be another exciting weekend."
Jürg Flach, Technical Director
"The Norisring was a race weekend to forget last year. The BoP was not adapted to the track characteristics, so we were simply not competitive in the qualifying sessions and races. The track is a typical stop & go track, which means that the brakes are under a lot of strain, and you need good acceleration skills. We are confident that the conditions will be taken into account this year and that we can continue to prove our competitiveness."
Driver Quotes
Jack Aitken (Great Britain) #14
"Last year, the Norisring was extremely difficult for us and there's no doubt that it doesn't suit the Ferrari as well as some other circuits. But we still want to try and score some points to continue our fight for the championship and I'm pretty confident that we've improved since last year. It's always a special place to race because it's a street circuit with such a short lap!"
Thierry Vermeulen (The Netherlands) #69
"Last year was the first-time we drivers had been to the Norisring. We will obviously try to have a better weekend, but there is no question that the track does not necessarily suit the DNA of the Ferrari 296 GT3. But we have improved in many areas and the Norisring is such a special racetrack that can always be good for a surprise. We've already shown several times this year that we can compete at the front, and I've also prepared myself again in the race simulator for the upcoming weekend."
