With a tailwind to the coast: Emil Frey Racing ready for Zandvoort
📌 Fast Facts 📌
Emil Frey Racing travels confidently to the second round of the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup in Zandvoort after a mixed start to the season in Brands Hatch. Despite initial successes, including a Pole Position, a podium and a Gold Cup victory, the team still sees room for improvement. Chris Lulham, who impressed on his GT3 debut, and Thierry Vermeulen, who will be competing in front of his home crowd, are particularly in focus. The duo of Ben Green and Konsta Lappalainen are also hoping for their first podium of the season after finishing fourth and fifth. The tradition-steeped circuit in Zandvoort promises exciting GT3 racing with its demanding characteristics.

After a mixed start to the season in Brands Hatch, Emil Frey Racing travels optimistically to the second race weekend of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup in Zandvoort in the Netherlands. With a Pole Position, a podium and a class win in the Gold Cup, the Swiss team has already set their first exclamation marks but knows that there is still potential for improvement.
A highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly the performance of Chris Lulham, who shone with an impressive performance in his second GT3 race. The upcoming races in Zandvoort will be a first for the young Englishman on this legendary circuit. Thanks to his Simracing experience, however, he should be well-equipped to master the challenges of the demanding dune circuit with confidence.
In Zandvoort, the focus will be on Thierry Vermeulen, who will be competing in front of his home crowd. The talented Dutchman is aiming to put in an outstanding performance on his home-track and surpass his previous successes at Brands Hatch. Together with Chris Lulham in the #69 Ferrari 296 GT3, he will try to defend their lead in the Gold Cup and even set sights on an overall victory. The sister car #14, driven by Ben Green and Konsta Lappalainen, narrowly missed out on a podium result at Brands Hatch, finishing fourth and fifth respectively. But in Zandvoort, the pair are determined to show their full potential and deliver a top performance.
The 4.3-kilometer-track winds spectacularly through the picturesque dunes of Zandvoort and offers a mixture of fast and flowing sections as well as tight corners that present a real challenge. The Luyendykbocht and Hugenholtzbocht corners in particular are notorious and guarantee exciting GT3 racing. Zandvoort is therefore the perfect setting for thrilling races and impressive motorsport moments.
The second weekend of the GT World Challenge Sprint Cup season will take place in Zandvoort (Holland) from 16th to 18th May 2025. All information and live streaming at www.emilfreyracing.com and www.gt-world-challenge-europe.com.
DRIVER QUOTES - Emil Frey Racing
Thierry Vermeulen (The Netherlands)
“I'm really looking forward to returning to Zandvoort. Even though we didn't have a good race weekend last year, it's always nice to drive in front of my home crowd. It's a very cool racetrack; the car really comes to life in the fast sections and I'm confident that we can finish on the podium after the good start we had to the season.”
Ben Green (Great Britain)
“I'm looking forward to the race in Zandvoort. The team has gained a lot of experience with the Ferrari there over the last few years. I am therefore confident that we will be fighting at the front of the field again and I hope that we can fight for race wins.”
Konsta Lappalainen (Finland)
“We laid a strong foundation at Brands Hatch and know that our car can also be competitive at Zandvoort. The track is technically demanding and doesn't forgive mistakes, but that's exactly what makes it so exciting from a driver's perspective.”
Chris Lulham (Great Britain)
“At Brands Hatch, we proved what we are capable of. After a strong start, I can take the confidence in myself and our car with me to Zandvoort. I hope that we can fight for overall victory again and extend our lead in the Gold Cup standings.”
